The Screen Industries Research Group at UWE Bristol explores and analyses the film and television industries through a wide-ranging programme of critical enquiry and publications.
Our priorities
Our current research priorities are:
- The UK independent documentary sector
- Sustainable practices in the screen industries
- Alternative approaches to organisation and political economy in the screen sector
- Bristol’s screen industries, Channel 4 and the Green Hollywood
We frequently collaborate with a range of inter/national HEIs and industry organisations as part of this work, ensuring our research has real world as well as academic impact
Bristol City of Film
Bristol is designated a UNESCO City of Film, a permanent global status that recognises the city’s achievements as a world leader in the field of film and the moving image.
Bristol’s City of Film status is enabling its film community to engage with and learn from other cities around the world, by forging international collaborations, creating new artistic exchange programmes and exploring cross cultural projects that combine film with other mediums
Watershed
Watershed champions engagement, imagination and ingenuity, working locally, nationally and globally from our home in Bristol, UK.
Our home has three cinemas, the Pervasive Media Studio and the Café & Bar.
Doc Society
Doc Society is a non-profit founded in 2005 committed to enabling great documentary films and connecting them to audiences globally.
Filmmakers for Future: Wildlife
FF-W is a grassroots community of Bristol based wildlife filmmakers with two main aims:
- To collaborate on ways of reducing the environmental impact of wildlife filmmaking
- To encourage content that raises awareness of the climate and biodiversity crisis, and which inspires real change
